The category covers 2 to 20 kg. For swing exercises you can choose heavier, for pressing and holding exercises lighter. What matters is that you control every rep with clean technique. Better to start lighter and increase quickly. If you mix different exercises, two to three weight increments work best.
Plastic kettlebells have a plastic shell with cement filling. They're quieter when set down, easy on the floor and affordable. The downside: they're larger at the same weight than cast iron and can't handle throwing or hard drops. For beginners and home training they're a practical choice.
Set the kettlebell down in control after each set instead of dropping it, so the shell and fill stay intact. Wipe the handle and ball after training and store them dry, ideally on a mat or stand. Check the handle occasionally for cracks before you start swinging exercises.
